Six Months of Tattered & Mended
Stories of Grief, Healing, Love & Legacy
On September 26, Tattered & Mended: Soulful Stories of Life, Love & Legacy will have been in the world for six months.
Six months!
Tattered & Mended is a deeply personal collection of stories about grief, caregiving, family, resilience, creativity, memory, love, and the ways we continue becoming after life changes us.
In some ways, it feels like I released it yesterday. In others, it feels as though these stories have been making their way toward other people for much longer than that.
When I wrote this book, I knew the stories were deeply personal. They came from places of loss, love, caregiving, family history, grief, survival, memory, and the moments that shape who we become.
What I did not fully know was what would happen once the book left my hands.
That has been one of the sweetest parts of this journey.
Over the last six months, I have heard from readers who recognized pieces of their own lives in these pages. Some have shared that a particular story stayed with them. Others have told me that a photograph, a memory, or a simple sentence stirred something they had tucked away for years.
And that is exactly what I hoped this book might do.
Not give answers.
Not tie every difficult season up with a bow.
But create a little space for remembering, reflecting, grieving, laughing, healing, and perhaps seeing our own stories with gentler eyes.
Reader Reflections on Tattered & Mended
As I prepare to mark this six-month milestone, I am gathering photographs, reflections, and words from those of you who have purchased or received Tattered & Mended.
If you have read the book, I would love to know what stayed with you.
What moved you?
Was there a story or chapter you kept thinking about?
Was there a photograph, memory, or passage you returned to?
Did the book remind you of someone you love?
Did it change the way you thought about grief, caregiving, family, creativity, resilience, or legacy?
What did you take away from it?
Your reflection does not need to be long or polished. A few sentences from the heart are more than enough.
And if you have a photograph of yourself with the book, the book in your home, on your travels, beside your morning coffee, or tucked into a meaningful little corner of your life, I would love to see that too.
With your permission, I hope to share some of these words and photographs as part of the six-month celebration.
Because the truth is, the book may have started with my stories, but it does not belong only to me anymore.
It belongs to every person who finds a piece of themselves inside it.
Supporting Caregivers and Survivors
There is another part of this six-month milestone that means a great deal to me.
Proceeds from the sale of Tattered & Mended are helping support programs for caregivers and survivors, with a focus on respite, self-care, restoration, creativity, and creating spaces where people can pause and receive care themselves.
That part feels especially close to my heart.
Caregiving can be beautiful, sacred, exhausting, lonely, and all-consuming. Walking through illness, grief, trauma, loss, or a life-altering season can leave people carrying more than anyone else can see.
Sometimes we need a place to rest.
Sometimes we need permission to breathe.
Sometimes we need a little room to create, reflect, reconnect, and remember ourselves again.
And sometimes we need someone else to remind us that caring for ourselves matters too.
My hope is that the stories inside this book can continue doing what stories have always done: help us feel less alone.
Now, through the proceeds from its sales, I hope the book can also help create tangible opportunities for caregiver respite, wellness, creativity, and self-care.
Grief, Healing, and the Stories We Carry
One of the things I have learned through writing Tattered & Mended is that grief does not always leave.
It changes.
It softens in places.
It surprises us in others.
It becomes woven into memory, family, creativity, relationships, and the way we move through the world.
Healing is not forgetting what happened.
Sometimes healing is simply learning how to carry what happened differently.
That is one of the threads running through this book: the idea that the parts of our lives that have been worn thin, broken open, or altered forever still belong to the whole story.
They matter.
They shape us.
And sometimes, when we share them, they help someone else feel less alone in their own season of grief or becoming.
Six Months of Stories, Healing, and Legacy
When I first released Tattered & Mended, I knew I was releasing not only a piece of my own life, but the lives of others.
What I have learned over these six months is that stories change once they are shared.
They become bridges.
They become mirrors.
They become reminders.
Sometimes they even become a hand reaching across the table saying, “I understand.”
So as September 26 approaches, I want to thank every person who has purchased the book, gifted it, shared it, talked about it, or quietly read it in your own corner of the world.
And if you feel led to share what the book has meant to you, I would be deeply grateful to hear it.
Your words are becoming part of the story too.
Because perhaps that is what Tattered & Mended has always been about.
Not pretending that we come through life untouched.
But honoring the places we have been worn thin, loving the pieces we have carried forward, and recognizing that even the mended places can become part of something beautiful.
The stories are still traveling.
And six months later, I am more grateful than ever to see where they are landing.
Share Your Tattered & Mended Story
If Tattered & Mended has found its way into your hands, I would love to hear what it has meant to you.
Share a favorite passage, a story that stayed with you, a takeaway you are carrying forward, or a photograph of the book somewhere in your own life. Your words may become part of the six-month celebration and may even help someone else discover the story they need at just the right time.
You can send your reflection or photo to me directly, and please let me know if I have your permission to share it.
And if you know someone who may find comfort, connection, or encouragement in these pages, I would be grateful if you would share Tattered & Mended with them too.
Stories travel farther when we carry them together.
